Hardware advice: TU Laptop Project

This page is part of the Hardware Advice series

zbook15Each year during the fall semester students of the TU Delft can buy a laptop through the TU Delft laptop project. This year there are three models. For 2018-2019 you can either choose an HP ProBook x360 440 G1, an HP ZBook Studio G5 Mobile Workstation or an HP ZBook Studio x360.

Students of the faculty of Architecture must choose one of the high-performance models! This is the HP ZBook Studio G5 Mobile Workstation or the HP ZBook Studio x360  for 2018-2019.

These laptops have been specifically selected, tested and are proven to run all needed software comfortably.

HP ProBook x360 440 G1

The 2018-2019 TU laptop project HP ProBook x360 440 G1 is not suitable for Architecture, mainly due to its lack of a dedicated graphics adapter. This model (and similar laptops) are generally not intended to be used for the types of applications we work with on a regular basis at the faculty of Architecture.

Durability and Warranty

The HP ZBook Studio G5 Mobile Workstation and the HP ZBook Studio x360 features a sturdy build and comes with a 3-year warranty covering hardware and battery failure. If anything on your computer fails within this time period you can get it repaired without any additional cost.

You’ll also have the option to get a temporary replacement laptop for the duration of the repair so you can continue working with little delay.

Summary and conclusion

At €1198 and1319 you’re presented with solid hardware at a reasonable price (its normal retail price exceeds €2200): in short, it is a safe bet and a choice that we wholeheartedly recommend.

You can read more about software for your own laptop, PC or your TU Delft laptop on the software page of this website.
